looking for advice
My husband and I have a 2 year old daughter whom we love so dearly, but we have talked and agreed that for the moment she will be our only child. We are blessed to not be feeling the effects of the rising inflation going on, but we know if we were to have another child that could easily crumble which is why at least until we become truly financially stable (we don’t really know when that could be which leads to this post) we will not be having any more children to make sure we are not bringing kids to this world we can’t provide the absolute best for. I know all only children have different experiences which is why I’d like to get some feedback.
To the only children who had a wonderful childhood: -what did your parent(s) do to make you not feel so alone? -what were some memorable things you did with your parent(s)? -how did you feel growing up not having siblings and what helped you through that? -any advice or experiences you’d like to share
To the children who did not have a good childhood being an only child: -what were some things your parent(s) did that could have been consciously or subconsciously that you did not like/made you feel neglected or alone? -what do you wish your parent(s) knew to help guide you better in dealing with the real world growing up? -how could your family make you feel more included? (I ask because I’ve heard some only children often feel like a third wheel to their parents) -what helped you fill the want of a sibling when you saw other kids with theirs?
I just want to be the absolute best and help guide my daughter to the best of my ability however I sometimes wonder if we’re being selfish with our decision or if we are setting her up for emotional failure. Both my husband and I have 2 siblings each so we don’t know what it’s like to be completely alone. However, we do know what it was like to watch our parents sacrifice so much and barely be able to provide for us so we want to break that cycle. We have worked hard since we found out I was pregnant and thanks to that we were able to buy our first house last year at 21 years old and our goal is to have wealth to pass on to our daughter so she can have a successful life and not have to worry about making ends meet. Thank you for reading!
