Struggling with a quest

Hi. I have been trying to finish this crucible quest for days, but it won't update.
The quest is called (Ascending the division) and I am stuck on step 2. The Quest clearly states that I have to reach the Promotion series by winning crucible matches in the competitive playlist. I have been playing the competitive one (ranked) for a while now. Im losing matches and winning some. Sadly no updates. Do I have to keep winning to progress the quest, or am I missing something?
