How do I explain the impacts of a phenomenon like insomnia to somebody who has never experienced them to the extent that I have, and therefore cannot physiologically empathize with what I claim about my experiences?
I've noticed there's a certain category of people who equivocate their subjective, limited experiences with an issue and then extrapolate that to others who claim to be suffering from the same category of thing.
For instance, the classic "sometimes I only get 2-3 hours of sleep, and I'm still able to get up the next day and function normally, it's just harder". Versus me saying "90% of the time only get 2-3 hours of sleep EVERY SINGLE DAY" which snowballs exponentially to the point that I can't cook, clean, shower, eat, sleep, manage finances, take care of myself, regulate my impulses/attention span, remember things, or keep up intellectual conversations with people.
My default has always been talking about the practical aforementioned effects, and all the things I can't do well if I'm not sleeping. But people appear just... Not to believe me sometimes?
Is there perhaps another way to explain this that might make more sense to people who are just ignorant, and not trying to be malicious or haughty?
What methods of explanation have you guys had success using?
