Why the Iggy Rework Failed
Iggy has gone through several iterations of his kit, be it tank iggy, early monolith combo ult iggy, and finally, broken rework turret DOT spam iggy. And sure, turret spam iggy had the highest success rate by far (because he could proc card abilities with each turret hit), but it was arguably the most boring iggy has ever been so his pick rate was still abysmal. All it did was make iggy boring to play and annoying to play against.
In my opinion, even though ult spam early monolith iggy was the worst iggy has ever been, he had some of the highest skill expression in the game. Many paragon characters have extremely simple kits: throw out abilities when you get them, and do most of your damage from auto attacks, with the exception of poke characters and assassin combo characters. Iggy deviates from this because the majority of his damage comes from more than just autos. He is a damage over time character not only from his turrets, but from the flame caused by his auto attacks. This gives him the option to play as a hyperdefensive, mid range DOT character, something no other character does. If they get close, ult them back into turrets and run away to keep up that mid range DOT. Chunk the opponent's hp to about 60? Iggy then has the option to try and flank and ult combo them like back unto the turrets like he's an assassin. Ult them into your turret range, throw down an extra turret and an oil spill, and set that bitch on fire for the killing blow.
Epic failed to realize this and butchered him into a character who just spams turrets, hides in the back line, and buffs his turrets every once in a while to get play of the game. If pred wants to have an iggy that actually gets picked, it is imperative that they keep a majority of his old kit. Keep the ult combo and DOT from his autos and turrets, but remove the terrible sprint escape and replace it with with a toned down version of his reworked ult. This would not only make him more fun to play against, but it would increase his kit diversity, as it could be increase combo damage, maintain a defensive stronghold, or decimate a team fight.
So Omeda, if you plan on adding the most memed about character who got 2nd place in the character poll to the game, please throw the Iggy rework in the dumpster and give his old kit some love.
Signed, somebody who does not want to get queue dodged for playing my favorite character anymore.
