Do you support having more than 3 political parties and switching to an alternative voting system? Why or why not?
Greetings from Malaysia, neighbor!
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understood correctly, Australia uses preferential voting system and has a mild two-party system with one minor party being represented.
Political scientist Lee Drutman proposed that the US should have up to 4 to 6 parties because less than that 4 is not diverse enough, while more than 6 will make it more chaotic and difficult to manage.
He supports RCV with multi-member districts, which when paired together will greatly eradicate gerrymandering. He also supports the Fair Representation Act bill which does exactly this but it uses STV instead.
What do you guys think?
