Just a reminder that there are millions of people carrying out there that are wildly unqualified
I recently separated from the military. I’m now a landscaper and completely abandoned my rated job in the military.
During the interview, I felt the room and when asked about my hobbies, I mentioned firearms and that I carry pretty much all the time. The owner was receptive and said that pretty much everyone here does. It was refreshing to hear.
They like to shoot at the shop, and I would rather be catapulted into orbit than be anywhere near these people in a defensive situation.
Cloth holsters. Not even leather, but cloth. Think of a microfiber towel, with a plastic clip on it. I said: -“hey dude, if you buy a good holster you’ll find it conceals a lot better and is significantly more comfortable” -“yeah but this is so much more comfortable, and quicker”
He proceeds to take the entire holster out of his unbelted pants, and fling the cloth holster off his gun, flagging me in the process.
A different guy keeps a loaded revolver, hammer back, on a full cylinder, in his lunch box. No holster.
There’s one or two guys carrying that know what they’re doing, but for the most part, it’s cloth holsters with hi points that they haven’t shot.
The point I’m trying to make is, lead those who might not be aware of the little things into the light. What a holster is good for, why you need a belt, the trade off between initial grip and concealment, and finally:
Training
These dudes would have thought I was carrying a rocket ship, with a micro dot and a TLR7.
Why do you need a light?
So I can identify what it is I’m shooting at.
Why the red dot? Can’t you hit anything with irons?
Red dots are just faster for me personally, they don’t work for everybody.
Why did you do all that to your pistol? Isn’t a Glock good enough?
I carried a Glock for years, but decided to upgrade to a shadow systems pistol because it what I had done to my Glock throughout the years and it was a better value for me. The frame work gives me a better, more comfortable grip, I can co-witness with irons, the milled slide gives me more grip on it if my hands are wet, etc.
Be an ambassador. Enjoy your day, folks
Edit: I want to make myself abundantly clear, I am in no way advocating for the mandatory training certification from a govt office. I’m simply encouraging everyone to share the knowledge they have and pass the proficiency along. People will carry how they want, but you can always try.
