I'm struggling with constant paranoia. Therapist Question.

Advice/Solutions

As the title suggests, I'm being mentally wrecked by paranoia.

Looking back at my childhood I realize I've been paranoid for quite some time. When I first started driving, if a song came on that I would be "embarrassed" to listen to next to someone else driving in the cars near me I would change the station or turn the radio off in case they had some sort of listening device that picked up my radio waves and heard the song I was listening to.

I don't know how I went 20 something years without recognizing at least the slightest bit of paranoia I was experiencing. I struggle leaving my house because I feel like everyone's talking about me. Neighbors in their back yard glancing in my general direction? They must be shit talking me. Literally anyone in public ever must be actively talking about me. I almost feel narcissistic when I feel that way because obviously nobody gives a shit about me and on the off chance a stranger was talking about me, it would probably only be that one time and they'd never think about it again. Going in to crowds with my general anxiety is hard but feeling like literally a 100 people are all talking about you separately makes it worse.

It also feels like now that I'm starting to recognize the paranoia, the feelings are so much worse. Logically I know most of what I'm paranoid about is all in my head but emotionally I can't convince myself.

It's not just paranoia about people, but that was the easiest to explain and also I'm starting to forget the exact examples I was going to use besides those.

I don't have a therapist. There's no one near me that treats DID except for "holistic counselors" which is not my thing. Should I go to the behavioral center(hospital) and make an appointment with one of their therapists? My kids see one there. From what I've seen though there's no Dissociative specialists and in one of the offices is an EMDR kit that I'm not sure if they'd suggest for me or not. Is a non-specialized therapist better than none? Or should I keep looking?
