Big issue for me

Hi everyone, I’m facing a big issue. I just can’t find the right coordination. I’m pretty fit, I do marathons, I run for miles up hill, and can easily jump for half hour so I don’t have body problem. My problem is the form, I just can’t jump wile moving my writs. The story is simple so I’m wondering how the hell I can practice the good move. I don’t have motivation, constancy or determination problems I just need to know how to master the movement to focus on it. It’s maybe because I’m dyslexic? Thanks a lot

How long have you been trying? I don’t think anyone is coordinated at it from the beginning. It takes lots of practice.

Hours a day, for a week. I always find the rope in my neck and I just can’t understand how to synchronise the wrist movement with the jump which is always too high or off pace. I’ve recently understand that you need to use some force to have the rope moving sharply. Now I need to focus on form and timing. Just to be clear I can’t do more than 5 jump in a rope. Thanks for your answer

Have you tried experimenting with the length of the rope? Longer/shorter can make a big difference. Also, I find that focused listening to the sound of the rope hitting the ground really helps with coordination, as my brain subconsciously links the sound of the rope hitting the ground to the timing of the jump, if that makes sense. Kind of gives the brain something to anchor to.

Yeah I’ve shortened the rope till my chest, golden zone. But I’m jumping with music maybe I have to do it quietly to focus on the movement. If I jump without the rope I feel I can do it forever and I really want to master it as I find it fun, now that I’ve discovered it’s channelling I have one more reason to master it

Yeah..don't match with the beat first. Timing is pretty tricky with jumping.

I couldn't jump with music at the start, I has to listen to the rhythm of the rope but with time I listen to tunes all the time now. Check out eddiejumps on insta, guy is sick, he has a free 28 day challenge, will help you master basic bounce, hops and run skips.

It takes time for ur body to learn the most efficient way of skipping. Keep at it

Yeah I have no issue with determination so I’ll do it till I’ll master it, no doubt. My only concern is if you guys have some tips, maybe something stupid, to improve the form

Don’t jump. Practice rope swings. Get your rhythm down. Practice spinning the rope on one side using only one arm. Then try the other. Keep drilling these until you feel confident in the movement. Then try jumping.

Here’s an example video that shows this. Relevant part starts at about 4:50. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SHUZtMk1XiQ&pp=ygUZY29tbW9uIGp1bXAgcm9wZSBtaXN0YWtlcw%3D%3D

Thanks for your reply, I feel I’m bad at the spin so this can be helpful: can you be more explanatory? How I’m supposed to spin the rope on one side? Thanks a lot.

Try the 1-2 step

When you say can’t get the wrist movement synchronization down, how forcefully are you trying to spin and how high are your jumps? As I’m reading this, I’m watching a video of myself jumping with my speed rope from yesterday. I’m maybe twirling at a rotation of a couple inches tops and boxer skipping just a few inches off the ground. It honestly should feel more like a shuffle jog, and your arms shouldn’t tire with a basic rope until you do many consecutive tricks or many hundreds of reps. Although I can tell you, as a distance runner myself for all my life, it took me a long time til I got to the point with a rope where people would stop and say “Man, you are good”. I began during Covid. Just watch a lot of videos and try to mimic how fluid and fast and easy their skips are. You’ve already got the cardio conditioning down, so once you nail it you’ll probably master any trick you want quickly

I’m jumping too high, and can’t rotate the rope at the same pace of my jumps. But somehow I’ll get it
