Semi lucky day flying

I had flight to SAN from BOS and this happened to me

Walked up to my gate waited for my flight to board and heard my name being called.....

Gate agent said to me "we were looking for you and called the sky club( not sure how they knew I was there ) but we're put you on a new flight and gave you a first class seat and we'll also give you $500 to take the new flight.

I asked "what's the catch?" Gate agent says no catch just wait until the end of boarding and we'll get you settle for your new flight.

So I waited and once the other flight boarded went up to the podium and the gate agent gave me my new seat and a vocher. I guessed they needed my seat....

Original flight

BOS to MSP MSP to SAN was sitting in comfort FC sold out and was 5 on wait list. Arrial time 8:44pm PST

New Flight

BOS To SAN on the airbus 321neo given a FC seat 2A Arrival time 7:58pm PST

***Ironically I was gonna book the direct flight but all the Comfort plus and FC seats were gone. So I booked the other one . So not sure how I got the FC seat on this flight. But the switched ended up working out for me get in a little earlier plus free money and seat upgrade.

Shout out to the BOS team way better than the ATL team...

Has anyone ever had a similar situation before?
