Balancing bonus followers against feats
So I was thinking about a campaign where everyone plays a wizard. Or at least wizard adjacent, so I would allow Wizard, eldritch knight, arcane trickster, an intelligence based warlock with pact of the tome and artificer. Lvl 3 start.
I was thinking it would be set in a magic University (not strixhaven). The players would be able to pick a major to study that would give them a feat or some other ability.
What I have thought so far for majors:
-
Alchemy - chef, poisoner
-
Realm travel - fey touched, shadow touched, keen mind, resilient, eldritch adept, metamagic adept
-
Mechanics - see below
-
Medicine - healer
-
Reanimation - see below
-
War Magic - elemental adept, war caster, metamagic adept
-
Weapon mastery - sheild master, sentinel, PAM, crossbow expert, gunner, slasher, piercer, crusher
-
Dungeon Delving - mobile, skulker, dungeon delver, skill expert
Mechanics and Reanimators: They would be able to build a minion, either a construct or an undead. It would have d8 hit dice equal to the players level, point buy stats with two +1's, shares the players proficiency. They can also have proficiency bonus additional features, with the following options.
- heavy armor proficiency
- 2 skills/tools
- Martial proficiency (or equivalent damage)
- expertise in one tool or skill
- telepathic bond (anywhere on same plane)
- multiattack (lvl 6 minimum)
- fighting style
- Large size
- +2 to attribute
What are peoples thoughts? I can see these are not balanced against a feat. Is there another way I could balance this?
