DAE feel like there should be some sort of punishment for spreading misinformation and smear campaigns based on cherry-picked or incomplete information?
First amendment, I get it, we should be allowed to say anything. Sure. Sound is just vibrating air and we don't need it in writing to know that we have the right to use our vocal chords. That being said...
Spreading information is a responsibility. The idea of both a populist/democratic non-government platform is just as unappealing to me as a government-run organization if the purpose of both is to police truth; I don't want true or controversial information to be in any way held back due to the fact that it could be disliked, and a government entity policing it would always be based on the morals of that particular government.
What I'm saying is that I don't know what the answer is, but that changes nothing about the fact that I truly do think that the world would be better if people claiming to tell the truth were to have their feet held to the fire in some way.
