Would you rather your "region" was a US state or a British constituent country?
US state is self explanatory, but as a British nation your region would have the same devolution deal as Scotland.
Region is defined quite loosely, but broadly speaking it should either be the main 'subdivision' of the country that you live in, or a significant cultural region within it.
For sovereign states that consist of more than one country, this would mean your constituent country, and for territories or dependencies this would mean the entire territory/dependency
