Van Dam Peak - Trail Maintenance

I'm not sure who maintains the trails at Van Dam Peak. I run here a couple times a week and lots of the lower trails are really overgrown due to all the rain we had this past winter. Are there any organized trail maintenance days so I can help take care of the trails I use?

Unrelated question, but is it named for Danielle Van Dam?

I believe that area is under the authority of SD Parks and Rec - specifically the PQ park rangers.

Almost all of the trails on van dam peak or “Teds” as the mtbers call it are actually illegal trails, mostly built and maintained by the mtbers. I believe there is a facebook group for them, but I dont have facebook and can’t find it.

The Park Rangers can enforce violations for entering/maintaining illegal trails if they choose to do so. That being said, if you’re maintaining “established” illegal trails and not building new ones, you’re probably in the clear. Enforcement and closure of the most egregious trails that went through more protected sections of land owned by fish and game happened years ago.
