Now we can put our focus into helping USL surpass MLS with ourselves at the forefront. Believe it or not, Sacramento; this is a golden opportunity.

There is 0 chance the USL takes over the MLS

MLS is a ponzi scheme

22
yoppee•

It’s not a Ponzi scheme it is literally a monopoly

What type of business doesn’t let you start one unless you compensate the current ones for revenue lost??

Woogabuttz•

What type of business doesn’t let you start one unless you compensate the current ones for revenue lost??

A Ponzi scheme

11
yoppee•

Yes a duck and an eagle both have feathers but a duck is not an eagle

0†

You just described a ponzi scheme.

9
GreatnessAwait5:Star_2019:•

Yep. What other league requires a $500 commitment between expansion fees and stadium costs but has a salary cap of $5 million???

No one is making money unless they keep finding new suckers to buy in.

5
yoppee•

That is not a Ponzi scheme a Ponzi scheme revenue is only later investors. The MLS has legit revenue namely the apple deal.

An early investor can potentially build a team and make revenue from sources outside of the next investor to come in

-2
Atomsac•

So they are bringing another team to SD that is not the Loyal. I hate this.

20
30kingOP:SRFC_2019:•

And screwing over Landon Donovan- surprised at that

22
Atomsac•

What a heaping pile of shit. Seriously. Fuck this.

8
ctuckercva•

Yeah, we should be talking about USSF's role in all of this. The fact that MLS can just parachute in a team on a thriving market is absurd. But then they literally tried the same thing here: remember "No Republic, No Party"?

Reality is that the casuals just don't know / care, and there's enough of them to fill stadiums.

15
ctuckercva•

There is no other country where you can just create a new Tier 1 side. Everywhere else you start at level 7 and get to play your way in.

9
griefgoodpeanut•

Usl is way more interesting than mls every team is a [insert city name here] United [insert other city name here] sc [insert other city name here] fc here in usl you got originality and the gap is closing year by year

14
griefgoodpeanut•

I just hope they build the stadium will be magical to have a proper stadium hhp is nice but a proper staidum would me magical

TheMusicCrusaderReferred Mr. 1k•

This also feels like a weird call out a Nagle

13
brunchking•

He also called out Mayor Steinberg in April in the same vein. It really makes me want to know some of the behind the scene details on how everything has gone down.

12
speakeasy5257•

You guys don’t remember the public fight between Nagle and Smith when he bought the Republic? Deal almost crumbled, Steinberg had to sit them in a room.

Just like why we don’t have a whale, it comes down to Nagle being too cheap.

7
whittenhl:SRFC_2019:•

DOA

10
size12shoebacca:SRFC_2019:•

Always has been.

5
extremewit:Bear_2019:•

I think Nagle and potential whales don’t agree on the valuation of the Republic.

Nagle probably wants to sell a stake at the valuation of what the team would be worth after it’s stadium is completed and the team is in the MLS. He is doing that to maximize his investment and he can justify it because he currently owns the team and an MLS bid is dead without him and the teams participation. So he should stay the majority owner.

I whale is probably trying to argue that what Nagle currently has, is a team worth 20-25 million dollars and they don’t get the stadium and MLS without the whales investment. So if they invest then he should step aside and let them be the majority owners.

9
speakeasy5257•

I agree. Nagle also didn’t agree with Warren Smith when he purchased the club from him. He’s on the cheap end of multiple republic conversations

4
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

And the tweet was deleted, good day all!

6
ctuckercva•

It was a bit of a salty tweet, not surprised he took it down...

4
Arksnal•

What did it say? I’m very late but been trying to find out what it said

1
ctuckercva•

Some bad feelings between Warren Smith and Kevin Nagle. Warren was pointing fingers about who caused Republic -> MLS to collapse.

1

All about the dollar

Or maybe The Curse of "Footy McFoot Face"?

Don't forget LD reneged also!

4
speakeasy5257•

Nagle publicly fought with Smith over selling the team. Of course Smith is going to feel cheated since he probably got way less than he asked, and is still feeling salty about it lol.

Nagle was cheap with Smith, and I truly believe he’s being cheap with “whales.” Why else don’t we have one?

4
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

We have zero information as to who is the actual "villain" in this scenario, but we can sure put pressure on Nagle to tell us the truth. If it comes to shove, we should walk out of a game and demand Nagle release the truth, this is getting ridiculous.

1
speakeasy5257•

There are multiple scenarios. The original purchase from Warren Smith (highly publicized fight), losing burkle (a slime ball I know), and no whale for months even before MLS was really “lost.”

The common factor is Nagle who has bought another minor league team hoping to move it up the levels of English soccer. He’s trying the same playbook he failed to do here!

0
ctuckercva•

There are no 'minor league' teams in the EFL. Huddersfield is in the Championship aka the 2nd division of the league. Minor league is a baseball term for nonsense farm teams.

4
speakeasy5257•

Okay does the point not stand that he’s buying a lower division team hoping to get it into first division? Just like here?

But sure, let’s argue about semantics.

0
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

Again, all conjecture was just my point

1
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

That's my point, we don't know what his playbook was. Is he the problem and undercutting everyone or is he left holding the bag because he cared enough not to let go. We don't know. Funny how Warren has now left a second team he created....that is being bypassed by MLS.

1
speakeasy5257•

Warren seems very good at creating successful USL franchises and not much else lol. I don’t think we will ever get the honest truth, I’m sure everyone sees themselves as the saint in the situation.

I do agree we have been force fed MLS, and it’s been shown in ticket prices, and pushed down our throats in every ad and message from a ticket rep.

2

I doubt the city will want to fork out the money to build a stadium for a USL team.

4
whittenhl:SRFC_2019:•

The city isn't paying for the stadium, it will be privately financed. The city is helping with surrounding infrastructure and establishing an enhanced infrastructure financing district.

8
GreatnessAwait5:Star_2019:•

Miami FC built their temporary stadium for $60m. Granted that’s in Florida where it’s much cheaper to build but there’s no reason we couldnt build something similar here.

4
whittenhl:SRFC_2019:•

We don't want another temporary stadium though, we want a permanent SSS in the Sacramento Railyards. That will cost upwards of $200 million.

4
TheMusicCrusaderReferred Mr. 1k•

City has said they’re willing to, from my understanding

2
kapeck69•

Not sure what is going on behind the scenes, but i guarantee having Landon Donovan behind SD efforts pushed them over Sac.

2
urbsindomita•

No, Donovan’s team is not getting MLS , there’s huge rumors that next week MLS and a corporate San Diego team will announce the newest team

9
TheMusicCrusaderReferred Mr. 1k•

Nah. LD’s squad is the one getting fucked over by the new MLS news. It’s basically destroying his team

3
kapeck69•

Ahh…the way the tweet read was LD was involved in SD getting the new team. Either way, it’s too bad Sac is getting pushed aside. This city would embrace a team on level like they do with the Kings.

0
Atomsac•

Why can't we embrace the Republic in the USL the same way? Many people are. There is no reason to stop.

5
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

What I can't stand is where are the leaks or whistleblowers here within SRFC to give us some info, just absolutely dead silent. Seriously contemplating a boycott until we get answers. Yes I know it hurts our boys but I am so sick of this shit and the over $20k I have shelved out supporting this team on what appears to be false pretenses.

1†
ctuckercva•

You're paying to go watch games in the division you're told they're going to be in when you pay for your tickets. There is no false pretense -- the team has been successful and the games have been fun to go to (exception: the Buckle years). No conspiracy, no backroom nonsense, other than Nagle trying to figure out how to get his team to be bigger and better, and finding it basically impossible to do.

8
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

Noooooo, we were paying into literal MLS ticket prices to show it was financially viable to have support pay at a higher level and it keeps being dangled in front of us. Again, the last sentence is an opinion of what he is doing and not the full story.

2
ctuckercva•

Well you pay to watch a USL game. Pretty sure if we ever go to MLS they will sell you tickets for that too. Agree that we're at the upper end of USL, but would be at the low end of MLS season prices, at least for SGs, based on this thread. I recognize that they have long touted their ambition to move up, and I do not think there's any disingenuity in there -- Nagle shouldn't just give it away, he's put a bunch of money into the club and it's not unreasonable to expect a return if he ends up having to sell to make the move.

2
tallgoalie:SRFC_2019:•

Thanks for the sarcasm, really pushes the conversation forward. Look, we are talking in circles because again you are assuming you know the situation (Nagle not getting what he "deserves) but we have zero intel as to what has happened and what is going on. Nothing else to really say. Looking forward to the brewfest!!!!!

4
TheMusicCrusaderReferred Mr. 1k•

It seems the Sacramento media is purely lockstep with the team, and solely reports that the club says. No investigative journalism, no asking questions, etc. It’s a bit frustrating
