Parcels not delivered

Hello everyone!

I moved to Prague 3 just a few months ago. Very often, when I have to receive a parcel, couriers and Czech Post claim I am not at home, without even trying to ring the doorbell. Does this happen to you too? Is this a common bad habit or should I assume there is some problem with my address?

Cheers

I'd tell you good joke about czech post, but it's possible you won't get it.

I used to live at Žižkov and this happened to me many times. They're just lazy / overwhelmed with packages, I don't think there's any problem with your address...

Thanks :-(

I recommend you to use DPD or Zásilkovna (Packeta) if possible.

Yep, same experience

Don't use czech post if you have that option. For me, if eshop doesnt have Packeta (Zásilkovna) box or any other box, i dont order from there. Balíkovna by Czech Post is kinda bette/faster.

Specifically when it comes to Ceska Posta, I recommend to register because then you can choose to have the package delivered directly to the post office instead of to your home, using the tracking code. That way you don't have to wait for two or three days of "We tried to deliver, but you weren't home" before you have to go to the post office to pick the package up anyway.

I haven't had any issues with couriers, but I can imagine that if you live somewhere where they can't park temporarily to deliver they'll rather skip you and claim you weren't home.

I think it depends, definitely had the same with courriers as well. I once watched the marker courrier van park in front of our building and was ready to run out when he calls. No call came and suddenly the van left without delivering anything (this was a place where they stop every day and there are always multiple people to the point of there being a small queue by the delivery van). I received a "nezastihli jsme vás" text within a minute after he left.

Probably stopped there just to have a GPS record or something but otherwise didn't feel like delivering.

Yes, exactly the same!! The Czech post always show me the status, that I didn't answer the courier call so they keep my parcel in Czech post department, but I never got calls from them

If you want to fight them with their own weapons, then whenever this happens, call your local post office and ask them to attempt delivery of such package again.

If you do this few times, the postman will get the point...

It happened to me twice they claim I am not home, and I try to never use them again.

Couriers are usually good, but Czech post sucks. Try use Zásilkovna, it makes life much easier

All the time. We actually spoke to the post lady about it, and she said she pretty much leaves all packages at the office because she has to go to too many apartments with one load (she walks to most of them) and she can't carry the weight.

Never use czech post!

Worst post experience I’ve had in Europe. Write an email to them and you’ll get a package delivered by a very angry man that doesn’t even speak Czech a week later

“Recipient not at home” every single time when I specifically schedule deliveries for home office days, they are a joke

Don't worry, it is not just Prague. Since the old couriers went for to retire, yes, that old, the delivery men will wrote "not at home" note even for companies with receptionists.

Completely normal, unfortunately. Only if they want money for handling import taxes they'll magically contact you or appear. Other times, not really. Use anything else if you can. Zasilkovna, any type of courier (PPL, DPD...), even their Balikovna (belongs to Czech Post) works better than their core services. Sad times and it's gonna get even worse because the will sack a lot of people pretty soon.

EDIT: Capital letters in CP

I'm not saying it's the least reliable post service I've ever had the displeasure of being forced to use, but, I've had better postal service in the third world.

It happened to me every single time. After like 2-3 times I never used that courier again, but I still got a few packages that came from there later and it was always the same unless they wanted money (paying for import taxes for example).

Ah, ceska posta. Where to begin...

it happens to me all the time. always select something else, if impossible, route the package to your office (if CP works better there or if they don't dare to do this shit to companies). also Balikomat is not bad, it's the same as alzabox and co., you get a text that the package is awaiting you there (experiment here, my balikomat works OK)

If I have to use CP, I never get delivery to home. Always straight to the post office/Balikovna, that way I get a notification and just pick it up from there. This is why I often even send the packages to the post office next to my office rather than home.

Haha classic Česká pošta. This very unfortunate my friend, but also inevitable. Part of the local folklore

Use Packeta (Zásilkovna) whenever you can. I also tend to avoid shops that do not use this service.

Case in point: Czech Post forgot to even leave a notice about a very important parcel that was supposed to be delivered directly "to my hands". Not even a paper notice, sms, email. (They had all these information about me.)

I knew it was supposed to be already at my place as it was already three or four days since the sendee sent me a notice of the package being on its way. So, I went to the nearest post office and "surprise, surprise" my package was waiting for me there for more than a day (and the post office person was "pissed" at me that the package was waiting there for "so long" – to be fair, working at such a crappy institution I might develop this attitude towards customers as well). I was kind of furious as the contents of it were very time sensitive.

I even periodically checked the GPS data tracking of the package – the courier NEVER was near my home. I decided then to file in a complaint. But hey, this is the Czech post and they have a month to process it. After the month, I got an email. With a scanned letter. That said (stripped of phrases):

"Well, yes, we are obliged by law to deliver the package, but you were not at home (comment: BS, I was). We are not obliged to have accurate GPS tracking. We then decided to sent you a paper notice of your package. That paper notice did not arrive, but that is not a problem as this is a paper service, which may or may not be successfully delivered and we are not obliged to manage to do so by law. To sum this, nothing out of ordinary happened and your complaint is unfounded. Cheers."

They did this to me until i registered a complaint at the post office. Since then, everything arrives. That was 8 years ago.
