That Paxton looks elite no lie
Pitch mix and speed differential is really good. Idk how he would play on all star, but I bet he’ll be gross on hall of fame and legend

99 Gavin Lux is as random as it gets
This may be unpopular, but I think it's ridiculous to have so many 99s at this stage. This game is meant to be a long-term quest, not one that spoon-feeds you incredible content just six weeks into release.
I see your reasoning but it’s so nice to not play the exact same team every game. Outside of Bob Gibson, there aren’t many cards that everybody universally uses
Crazy how everyone uses Gibson. He's super easy to read and you play against him almost every game. Easy W when opponents pitch him IMO.
Yeah I got rid of him for that reason. Also was just tired of having a Gibson vs Gibson matchup. I think they can find a balance next year, need to add more 99 pitchers if lineups can be full of 99’s
It does feel really stupid, because 99's are so vastly different. I know it would be unpopular but they should shift base ratings down along with everything else, and allow more of a curve at the top. No one is using bronze and silver players outside of events, why is 75% of the rating scale dedicated to them?
The problem with the long term quest is everyone ends up with the same team at the end of it. Having so many 99s at least increases the amount of different teams you can play with. Not saying it’s perfect but makes playing online more enjoyable.
But a lot of these feel forced and won't end up being used anyway. There's going to be a meta team at the end of the year regardless of how many artificial 99's they pop out. The whole ranking system needs revamped imo. I said it above, but bronze and silver cards take up 75% of the ratings scale and are basically never used outside of events.
There will always be meta, but if you’re a Gavin Lux/Dodger fan that card is totally usable online. The “artificial” 99s make it possible to go away from the meta and still compete, versus being forced towards the meta.
I tried that Paxton and got rocked in 3 games. Instant sell.
There seems to be more mariners cards this year than any other team
Why does James have a sinker? And circle change?
Paxton has a sinker listed on his baseball savant in 2016 and threw a change up every year until 2020
I remember him throwing a circle change when he was pitching for the Yankees. Idk where the sinker came from, but I haven’t really watched him in a few years.
No one has watched him in a few years. He just pitched in his first major league game since like 2020 (he threw 1.1 innings for Seattle in 2021 but does that count?)
Oh wow knew he hadn’t thrown much but didn’t realize it was that little.
Was recovering from TJ surgery and just as he was about to come back last year suffered a lat strain in a rehab game. Then was ready to go full speed into this year and strained a hamstring in his first spring training start. That said, his debut a couple nights ago was pretty electric. Touched 98 and looked pretty sharp for a guy that basically hadn’t pitched in the majors in 3 years.
Does Lux have any quirks
He does not
Wow Paxton looks amazing picking him up rn
How is no one else at least a little impressed by Paxton? A lefty alone with those per 9s has a ton of value at HoF and above.. not to mention the majority of the lineups you face are stacked with lefties
Speed differentials aren’t great but you get a 5-7mph difference on the fastball and cutter
Big Maple should be good on a mariners theme team.
Yessir.. 115 H/9, 122 K/9 and 117 PCLT at Tier 3 🤤
Lmao that’s fucking dope can’t wait to try that.
Sooo fucking excited about this mariners theme team
Is it possible to get those boosts in co op?
Luxy, my boy!
Let’s go! Love having so many Mariners!
Didn't see a post for the new pack. And this Paxton looks like it might be must have until Set 4 drops
Paxton hasn't been super meta the past few years, I feel like he had a flashback lighting in 20 or 21 that was awesome but I don't remember him having a relevant card last year
He was a flawless reward in 21 and the fastball and cutter were too close in speed if I remember right. He was also a potm flashback in 19 or 20. Looking at showzone this card is like the potm with a little more velocity and better k/9, bb/9.
But lefty cutter/sinker isnt as good as righty so he probably not a top 5 pitcher.
Yup, my game plan is to really be off speed heavy with him because that fastball will start to look so flat.
But he’s totally useable there’s no doubt.

Casual here, how do I get my hands on Maple?
From what I understand about Diamond duos is you can pull him in a Diamond Duo pack, or buy him. I just bought him at 60k
Gotcha, thanks. Little light in stun snow trying to get set 1 to 140 for Chipper, but that’s not an unreasonable price for a pitcher id actually start
No problem. I just hoard Stubbs unintentionally and he’s one of my favorite Mariner pitchers so I just pulled the trigger haha
I splooged all my stubs getting the NL Live Series collection done for Sosa right at the end of Season 1. I’m going through TA2 right now but am only up to like 35,000 stubs. Any tips to get stubs back quicker?
So many damn lefties on the all dodgers team

What has Lux ever done for a card like this?
Lux has a great swing
How does Lux stats equal a 99?
Really high defense and speed, great contact, and really high discipline and durability which are great rating inflators
There have been much worse 99s than that card, he’s actually a pretty solid card

Schmidt, one of the best 3B of all time, gets a 97 Kaiju.
Lux, who hasn’t even played 2 full seasons and has a 5.2 career WAR, gets a 99 Kaiju.
Another example of SDS and zero card logic this year
What’s the problem with giving a normal mlb player a juiced up card
Probably the only juiced card he gets.
I like it when there’s an actual pattern to the cards at least. Otherwise there’s biases in play and I’d rather give good cards to players who deserve it
That’s not how this game works and never has been. I’d say everyone here is adjusted and prefers being able to use a good version of their favorite players, other than you that is.
Can’t take the RTG bait brother. He’s going to keep this schtick going all year. Just ignore and move on.
Just because you don’t agree with me doesn’t mean I’m doing a “schtick”
Agreeing or disagreeing matters not. It’s the same dry complaint about the content structure, that you know isn’t going to change.
I think it does mean your take is really dumb, but at the end of the day i don’t really care
The game absolutely has been based on real life achievements. Been playing for years.
You acting like Schmidt won’t get a juiced 99 at some point? Because a legend has never gotten multiple cards a year? God forbid they make usable cards for fun players today right?
Nope you’re focusing on the wrong part. I’m not complaining that Schmidt doesn’t have a 99.
Gavin lux is definitely up there as most random 99 ever.
He's gotten them before. I think he had a 99 Future Stars a couple years ago when he was in the top 5 prospects list. I think he was number 2?
But it probably seems more random now that he's out for the season.
