Petition for Solar Crown to drop the Test drive name!

Suggestion

From what we've seen so far this game will be nothing like a test drive game:

-Small map

-No houses

-No limited garage space

-Mostly multiplayer focused

-Free to play style general hub

There is no reason for this game to be called Test drive and it will only piss off the existing, nostalgic fan base. It will never live up to any of the old games so why let people compare it to them. Make it it's own thing since the devs have their own vision of what the game should be. From this last big announcement it just seem that they are making yet another "live service" game that will be a bad stain on the franchise and fans will never accept it as a true Test drive game. It's not too late for a name change! As a fan of the old games I can't say I'm excited for this one to come out anymore. I'll probably look at the reviews when it comes out but the chances of actually buying it have dropped massively now that the games sounds like it'll try to copy the Forza formula. I already got Forza and I don't think I need another one...

You'll probably get downvoted for this but I agree. All they need to do is copy the old TDU formula then add improvements to it. They literally said they're staying true to the roots of TDU. Now it looks like only a FH/ the crew clone. I don't see anything special about it anymore.

RaptorrYTModerator•

y'all call anything, anything a clone nowadays lmao. If we're being honest it's called TDU SC, not TDU3 so it should be seen as a remake, not a sequel. Yes, they did say they'd keep the TDU DNA, but revamp it for the modern era which, to be honest, is what I've seen so far. Did I want houses at the launch? Yes of course. Am I okay with the direction and getting houses post-launch seeing how they implement the hotel and how it will work? Yes. Either way houses coming post-launch, and the hotel is still NOTHING like TC2 houses or FH houses, so I don't get these comparisons. Let's stop the cap about it not being special. Dealerships, workshops, casinos, nightclubs, rooftops, gas stations, clan HQ's, rooftops, clothing stores, surgeons, and who knows maybe even jewelry stores and so much more we haven't even learned about and y'all calling this a clone? We haven't even learned about the garages for the Solar Hotel yet and y'all calling it a write-off. Hilarious.

Houses were a big part of the progression system in previous TDU games. Adding it in post launch is some bs. Why can't they just finish everything and release it? What's the point of completely adding them later? The majority of the fans have wanted it since the day they announced the game, but they didn't listen after almost 2 years. Also I hate it when the stores are all in one place. That's literally like FH or TC. In previous TDU, you can unlock the stores when you find it on the map. Now everything is inside the hotel.

25
RaptorrYTModerator•

Now everything is inside the hotel.

No, it isn't. Of course, they're not gonna show everything about the game yet. I'd expect since it's a hub, a main hub I should mention, they'd have a store and the beauty salon inside of it as well. We haven't even learned about garages yet and people assume it's gonna be like a FH menu style. Be patient, wait for gameplay and more info.

Houses can be; and seem to be based on the newsletter, going to be added post-launch tied into the story where 'the radiant will be building more real estate all over HKI'. Plus if garage space is limited in the Solar Hotel, then having houses will make even more sense. End of the day you gotta remember making a TDU game from scratch isn't gonna be easy, fair enough not everything can make it in one go within a reasonable dev timeframe. Eden Games had it lucky and already had the interiors and exteriors of houses ready when they made TDU2 from TDU1. But that's just me, I see games not 100% from a consumer side, but also from a development side, so my opinion is probably not for everyone. I still see this game doing well.

i really hope that there is garage spaces and LIMITED, because i want for houses to have meaning, we used to buy houses to be able to buy more cars, because they give you more garage space. and i also hope there is shops through the entire city just like the other games, its a core aspect of TDU.

4
Tinchy654Sharps•

It doesn’t say anywhere that there are no shops in the map. You just jump to conclusions based on one sentence

8

Whats the point of exploration if you can just buy everything in the HQ?

Theres zero incentive to explore the island like in the first two games.

6
doingStufffffOP•

Dealerships, workshops, casinos, nightclubs, rooftops, gas stations, clan HQ's, rooftops, clothing stores, surgeons, and who knows maybe even jewelry stores and so much more

None of those stuff are actually confirmed just like houses weren't and look at where we are now. What was the point of this being called a TDU game beside to piss of the original fanbase. If they marketed the game like a new IP set in hki with those features people would've probably look forward to see the end product but they wanted to generate as much hype as possible and are starting to underdeliver on their promises. The disappointment expressed on here is warrant and they brought it on themselves.

-2†
RaptorrYTModerator•

The only thing not confirmed from what I said is jewelry stores, what are you on about?

4
VX97Streets :hype:•

Dude cmon not sure on what stuff are you on but all the stuff except jewelrly HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED! Also look at the one of the new Solar Hotel screenshots and you see it clearly they have Clothing Store, Beauty Salon and even Bar Lounge there. You have to open your eyes.

4
doingStufffffOP•

How does having everything shoved into one place sound like a TDU game to you? Half the point in exploring the map was because you'd find new shops, dealerships etc. But I guess with such a small map compared to the old games exploration can't ever really be a factor...

2
Avenger1324•

-No limited garage space

Is there even a garage?

The newsletter spoke of a valet service at the hotel, and a valet brings your car to you. Unless we have a shot somewhere showing our garage, I think this is adopting the pick a car from a list / scrollbar.

24

I refuse to believe they're wont be a garage.

They can't possibly fuck that up

22
Avenger1324•

Alain - hold my beer

joking aside, I really hope there is a garage, but in a post focusing on the only property in the game... no mention of where your cars will be kept, just the valet.

19

They're has to be a garage in the solar hotel that you can walk around.

If not then there is literally zero difference between this game and Forza

20
Tinchy654Sharps•

STOP JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS OF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!

  1. It was always clear that there would be no houses at launch.
  2. the map has a ton o roads to drive on
  3. They never said there would be unlimited garage space.
  4. TDU was always live service & multiplayer. It will also have a single player campaign (that’s what it says on steam)
  5. you haven’t seen anything from the hotel except to screenshots of the lobby. You don’t know how it plays, what the Progression is, how thinks work or unlock. You don’t know how clans play into it, you don’t know anything.

Your reaction is unhinged and irrational, and quite frankly embarrassing.

16
doingStufffffOP•

Yeah it's crazy how they announced a new TDU game and people were actually expecting a TDU game.

-5†
Tinchy654Sharps•

It is a tdu game, with a hotel instead of individual houses. This fact was always clear and obvious on the website. It was also expected for houses to come post launch. The only thing that’s changed is we now know more about the hotel Seems like people are forgetting everything else they have seen in previous newsletters and jumping to conclusions that are completely irrational. Half of the stuff people accuse the game of „not having“ isn’t even mentioned.

9
dynamic367Sharps :hype:•

There's more to a TDU game than houses. They brought back many features already, like surgery and FRIM for example.

3†
KC_Night•

Of all the gaming subs I'm in, this may be the most insufferable. The sense of entitlement is something else. We still know very, very little about the game.

12
Ambitious_PhantomSharps•

This is exactly what came to my mind when I saw the reaction of the sub about this whole house thing

3
AnyoneButKevin:tduscpin:•

As the youngins used to say… Retweet

1
Sebastianx21•

I mean the game will be multiplayer focused and they cut down on wasting development time on useless features 99% of people don't care for, so I'm all for it.

0
eriFenesoreK•

TDU, and more specifically TDU2, has always been multiplayer focused.

1
Sebastianx21•

Yes, that's what I'm saying. They're focusing on multiplayer rather than weird niche things only a minority cares about.

Anyway The Crew Motorfest will give them and even Forza a run for their money.

1
eriFenesoreK•

Oh, I misread your comment, sorry. </3

1
Onlyspeaksfacts•

While I don't fully agree with you, I do see your point.

When the developers say they want to honor the first games, it's kind of contrary to remove things the series is known for.

TDU is known for having huge maps where you can just drive in any direction for easily 30 minutes, while SC will run out of map space after about 5 minutes. So basically, no long, relaxing drives.

TDU is known for having houses all over the map. SC will have a central hub.

It is disappointing that they're being respectful of the first two games, by not actually including staples of the first two games.

7
EEMon13456•

I thought the Forza Horizon communities toxic. I never knew that the Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Community is even worse. How about let's wait till we see some gameplay then we can make Judgment of the game. The only thing that's not coming to TDU solar Crown is houses at lunch. Everything like whining down your windows, putting down your roof, gas stations, dealership and Etc is coming to the game. What are you talking about.

It'll still be partially Test Drive imo, not a full blown Test Drive Unlimited 3.

So I see this as a sort of in between untill maybe a potential real tdu3.

4†
Stelcio:tduscpin:•

This is premature. There are loads of ways they can maintain the spirit of the game without copying every aspect 1:1.

3
thebrowncat100•

You do know that the Test Drive series existed before TDU right?

3
BlocBoyBaloo•

I'm not that upset by houses tbh but I am a lil worried that we're gonna have to do almost everything thru the hotel. And although there's no houses we still do get customizable hotel rooms which is an OK alternative. Besides if they nail every other aspect of the game I'm sure ppl won't care that much about houses

2
RobertOhlen69•

Just give me a TDU 1 remaster (will never happen) :(

2
OriginsRevelation•

I fully agree with the OP. Launching a game with the bare minimum "test drive unlimited" features and then adding houses later is just lazy. I don't care if I have to wait until 2025 to play this. I'd rather have a finished game that deserves the Test Drive Unlimited name than some unpolished cookie cutter Forza clone.

2
FilmOrnery8925•

So a lot of key feature we liked are nonexistent

2
Sexbomb916•

Lmao this is an incredibly childish reaction to the hotel. This is honestly just embarrassing. From what we’ve seen plenty of things in this game really feel like Test Drive :)) and things change get over it. Tdu2 released 12 years ago and the industry is a lot more complex now. There’s a lot of potential with the direction they seem to be going in. And these comparisons between tdu and forza & the crew make no sense, it just feels like people are trying their best to be negative🤷🏼🤷🏼

1†
doingStufffffOP•

From what we’ve seen plenty of things in this game really feel like Test Drive

Like what? We haven't seen anything so far that shows the devs want to make a test drive game...

things change

the industry is a lot more complex now

Ahh, yes this is the same industry that rushes and puts out unfinished games, can't optimize them so they run like crap, promise to fix them but most get abandoned because the devs are put to work on the next "trending" generic game formula. And all that in the name of PROFIT. We should truly bow down to this industry and let it flourish with it's overpromising and underdelivering anti consumer tactics...

20
Vetroza•

How do you think it really feels like test drive, besides the fact you can enter dealerships? The hotel to me just feels like a large interactive menu/hub. You don't drive to clothing stores or surgery clinics, you don't seem to have a garage but just spawn outside in the car using the "valet" service(this is only my assumption). And you don't even have a house? I am still gonna buy this to support but i think its fair for someone to criticize this direction of the game.

13
Avenger1324•

You picked up on the same concerns I had from that newsletter.

Mentioning some of the services in the hotel - purchasing clothing, hair stylist, surgeon - is positive in the sense that those features are in the game.

What it doesn't make clear is whether those services will be available anywhere else on the map as was the way with TDU1 & 2. Drive to the different shops, find what you want there.

9

This is what the newer fans migrating from Forza don't understand.

TDUSC might very well be a solid game.

But will it be a good TDU game?

8
Smart_Pomelo_2779•

Let the crybabies cry.

A petition to remove Test Drive from the game's name ? Are you kidding, and who do you think you are ?

You don't want to play the game ? So be it, other people wil - OGs and newcomers. I spent hundreds of hours on previous Unlimited episodes, and I'm planning to do the same with this one.

Cheers.

1†
Subatomic_Particle•

This is this studio's first TDU game. Yes Jarniou is there and another guy, but that's only 2 people who worked on the originals. KT has never made a game of this magnitude before, and only had about 50 people on the team when development started. Now they're up to at least 150 reported in 2021.

This game is is likely to be a springboard to the next one with a much higher budget, and the team will be expanded further allowing for quicker turnaround between releases, and a more complete game overall. Its pretty damn frustrating, but you need to take these things into consideration.

1
doingStufffffOP•

If this thing comes out and disappoints do you really think there will be another game? Judging by the state a lot of major releases come out these days. If TDU SC comes out and is just a smaller and buggy-er forza horizon wanna be game people will drop it so quickly that Nacon will probably just can the whole franchise. Look at how badly NFS is doing and that's a big franchise going way more back than forza and with a lot more fanfare than TDU.

1
Subatomic_Particle•

Does Forza Horizon have dealerships? Does Forza Horizon have areas where you can walk around with your character? NFS has shit for physics and that's why it's doing badly. As long as the driving is good which is what is most important, it will sell enough copies to warrant another release.

We all know houses are a core part of TDU, which is why I said its frustrating. However, a lot of kids who havent played tdu before will buy the game simply because its a forza alternative. Just because the game doesn't have houses at launch doesn't mean it's a total failure. The driving feel is the most important thing. Houses are a vanity item and come after that in terms of priorities.

1
HeisenberGeorgeSharps•

It's weird the latest news we received, but I'm still waiting to check what KT is able, didn't liked a bit to discover that we will not have have houses too, but maybe other points of the game can shine and we can still have a great game. Maybe not with all the TDU DNA (at launch, I hope) but a good MMO Driving/Racing game...

1
zerosuneuphoria•

It's on the KT engine, a terrible engine.

1
Sebastianx21•

Can you still test drive cars? If so, name's fine.

1
doingStufffffOP•

We don't know. That might be another feature that they didn't bothered with.

1
Sebastianx21•

Oh they will, unlike housing, that's a feature people actually use, especially if it's a game where acquiring new cars takes a long time.

1
doingStufffffOP•

We don't know that. It's not in the horizon formula everything that we know for a fact that is in the game so far follows the horizon formula...New NFS games also follow this formula, they have some cars that take a bit of a grind to get and they don't have this feature.
