Connected dual monitors. Not able to hit 144hz.

Tech Support

Hi, I have a 5800h Legion 5 that I connect to a dual monitor setup via a usb c dock. Both are connected to tge dock via display port. One of the monitors is a 60Hz Dell the other a 144Hz LG Freesync (non nvidia verified) . I cannot get the LG to work @ 144hz, if I select 120hz it works fine. @ 144hz it just displays fuzzy lines as if it were an unsupported mode. I was wondering if there is a maximum combined refresh rate that the usb c can handle? Or some other thing I am missing?

I think it also depends on resolution.

My dock claims 2x4k at 60Hz but it works fine with a 1080p at 60 and a 1440p at 144Hz.

Another thing to consider is the usb cable. When I used the one that came with the dock I had issues but swapping it out with a better quality cable fixed them.

I tried various resolutions at various refresh rates, Everything worked @ 120 and under and nothing worked @ 144. The docks USB C cable is non removable so cant replace that. Will try a different DP cable. Also plan to get my hands on a USB C -> DP adapter to bypass the dock and rule that out. Don't have one at the moment though.

Is your hdmi cable 2.1?

Using DP not HDMI.

You are limited by the HUB and its ports. Connect your display directly to the laptop to avoid such bottlenecks.
