New player - Seeking advice and tips

General

Hey, I'm a long time player of Ark survival evolved and just started playing Exiles 2 days ago on PS5 with a few friends.

Wondering if anyone has some good advice before I start making too many mistakes.

Hi, I absolutely love Ark and I too spent there much more time than I did on Conan Exiles. However I've played CE long enough too and have done I think all vanilla content there is, multiple times, in PvE. If you play PvP, I probably cant suggest anything of value, but if you play PvE here are some tips:

  • Don't overthink things. You can't do anything irepairable. Failing is part of learning.
  • Have a gas mask with you all the time. It does not weight much and comes in different varieties: regular one, Yog's chosen mask, witch doctor mask, setite religion mask, a bucket errr I mean Godbreakers helmet and probably more.
  • Build your base near obelisk. You can TP to any obelisk from a map room. If possible build map rooms at any location you find yourself frequenting, so you can tp back home easily.
  • Bases are large here, especially if you want each crafting station at top tier.
  • Good thrall can do any content in game. Where good means: Berserker (100 % spawn at Mounds of the Dead), Dalinsia Snowhunter (chance spawn at Cimmerian lands), Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker (100 % spawns at the entrance of Vine Cellar dungeon and Unnamed City), Lian (100 % spawn at Lian's watch), Janos (chance spawn at any nordheimer outpost) and Volcano named fighters (chance spawn all over Volcano, easy to find). As your first fighter thralls get anything you can, and then level them up a bit, equip them with a truncheon and best armor you have and use them to get better ones :) There's a huge difference between Exile II you get at a noob river, and someone like Lian.
  • dress your thralls in the best heavy armor you got, it's drawbacks does not matter to thralls. Equip them with the best one handed maces you've got, or two handed swords. Bad fighters (like a dancer) can use spears or daggers, especially the ones that also have poison.
  • Your base will be raided by NPCs aka The Purge, prepare accordingly, built it strategically, with as few entrances/chokepoints as possible, place your fighter thralls there. Once you feel comfortable you can equip them with truncheons before purge so they won't accidentally kill anything, but I find it more hassle than it's worth to finish off knockdown thralls. I do it the other way around, during purge I and my follower run around with truncheons at a distance, checking every wave and knocking down what I need, and what passes through us gets killed by entrance guards.
  • Spicy food generally increases your body temperature, while Ice and Ice Tea decreases it which is relevant in Temple of Frost and Volcano respectively.
  • Best places to farm demonic blood is Unnamed City (snake and red mother) and Warmakers Dungeon, the latter may be a bit hard for a new player but you learn from experience :)

There are a lot more I could list but you'll probably learn it yourself while playing. But remember, just like Ark this game is about working smarter not harder, so if you find anything to be too difficult or too grindy, there's probably a better way to do it so google it or feel free to ask questions here :) Good luck.

Wow! That was quite a lot to take in. I think I have some things to Google lol. I really appreciate all the tips.

One question I'm really curious about but can't find a straightforward answer to would be. How soon can I expect to be able to knock out a tier 4 thrall? I've got a "powerful bow" with a second stage blunt accessory and blunt arrows. Unfortunately every time I try to knock out the named fighting thrall at the southern river I end up killing it. Is it not possible to get a named thrall until you unlock the advanced wheel of pain and tortures table?

Sorry I guess I got carried away :D

First get yourself an Iron Truncheon, otherwise it's gonna be a real pain to knock one down. Then theoretically you can do it immediately. Practically I suggest getting yourself a T3 or T2 northerner first, equip them well, give them a truncheon (no shield) and go together. Let the thrall tank, you try to stay behind the target. Bring a sleeping bag place it nearby :) I never used blunt arrows idk if they work well I just use a truncheon. Oh and I was talking about decent named thralls like Lian or Berserker up in the North. Southern named thralls I remember doing them solo back when I just started but are not worth the effort imho.

Now as to why you end up killing them idk maybe wooden truncheon does more health damage than concussion, assuming you use the wooden one. Or maybe it's an ages old bug still unfixed. Try iron truncheon or better yet a steel one.

If you go to a Winecellar dungeon (other side of Conans tavern) you will find a drunkard there right at the entrance, he hits superhard but with a decent thrall (i.e. Northerner 2 or better, leveled and geared) you may kill him. He has a chance to drop a very good legendary truncheon, better than a regular steel one.
