Primary monitor acts like its disconnecting when powered off

Anyone experience this? Basically I have a 2 monitor set up, and I like to keep multiple programs open at various sizes on my secondary monitor. The problem occurs when I turn off my main monitor (like when I go to sleep at night) and the next day all of my programs are moved over to my main monitor and I have to drag them back to their spots on my secondary monitor. If I turn off my main monitor but not my second one, all the programs go to my secondary monitor and the resolution changes to very small. Is there any way to fix this? its very annoying to have to deal with and i can't seem to find the answer.

My drivers are also up to date*

Monitor 1 (main) is a Viotek using DP (had a dell recently with exact same issue as well)

Monitor 2 (secondary) is an LG using HDMI.

I believe in the past i used both monitors with hdmi and the problem still happened.
