I mean I made a thick and heavy sword to chop wood with but it uses long blade instead of axe

I guess we can now consider these all axes : sword, long blade, bow and arrow, hammer and wedge, machete, etc since they all cut wood

It was just a joke.
You can't cut wood with a hoe, so I argued it was not an axe.

Garden hoes are far too blunt to be used as axes, often they just have a tapered edge with no sharpening. Wounds inflicted with garden hoes would be like striking someone with the tapered end of a crowbar or the edge of square metal pipe
