I did a 1v1 with my boss the other day. He was concerned about me making mistakes at work (like the domino effect) and my ability to focus to solve problems at work. He asked me point blank "How can we help you?" I still don't have a good answer.

Questions/Advice/Support

I (28M) work in the chemical plant industry as an operator. It is a high-stress job. It requires me to focus a lot of my time and effort on keeping my complex process running. But sometimes, I don't react as I should and when things go down-hill, I try not to panic but with alarms going off it's hard to make everything shut-up fast to prioritize where I need to focus.
I told my boss the truth, "I hate working midnights BUT it comes with the territory of being in my job. Do I feel comfortable? As comfortable as I can be. I know I have back-up. I do my best and try my best. It's just a challenge sometimes for me." He knows that I'm ADHD and he knows I struggle sometimes but I don't know how to answer his question of "How can we help you?"

I write things down. I have a notebook of what to do when trouble arises that I have made. But I have no idea how to ask for the help I need to make my job easier? I try to do a breathing exercise to calm down but that only does so much.... I am clueless. And to add on more damage, I work as a lone-op meaning I am the ONLY person in my building. So if things go bad, I'm stuck trying to figure it out without help unless I call someone at 2am.

Help me out. Help me give a solid answer to my boss so he can help me if possible. It is said with care and not from a 'you need to do better or you'll walk out the door.'
