Are the amiibo items canon: yay or nay?
In BotW, it was obvious that the amiibo items + Champions Ballad DLC armor sets weren't canon. You couldn't dye them, you couldn't upgrade them, and no one acknowledged their existence.
Enter TotK. These seemingly non-canon items can now be found throughout the world and can now be upgraded at fountains. Not only that, but they are explicitly sought after by treasure hunters around the map and are mentioned in notes left behind by "the Great Bandit Misko." Additionally, wearing a full amiibo armor set and asking Cece for a fashion check, she'll have something unique to say about *every single one.*
Finally, it seems that certain armor descriptions have been changed to reflect their new "canon status". The most obvious one I can think of is the >!Phantom Ganon!< set, now renamed to be the >!Evil Spirit!< set, with any mention of >!"the Dark King of Evil"!< being omitted from its description. With how much the other armor sets have stayed the same, its a bit unusual they would go out of their way to make this change.
So here's the final question: are the amiibo items canon or not? Or are they somewhere in between? If they are canon, how did they end up scattered across the Depths, >!in the middle of giant labyrinths!<, or in the possession of some >!Lurelin fisherman!<? Is Misko some kind of time-traveling bandit? What does this say about the Zonai?
I'm interested to hear people's thoughts.
