Gerd Medicine

After you got your first gerd incident, How long do you have to take the medicine according to the doctor's instructions? Mine is 3 month, but my friends just take a medicine for a week and not consume it anymore cause her doctor's instruction is a week and if she getting better, she doesn't have to came to the doctor again. How about you guys? Is it different for everyone?
