HALP! People keep lying about blender for no reason!!!

All I'm trying to do is simply find the number of vertices of an object. That's it, you'd think that would be one of the easiest conceivable tasks in Blender.

BUT, for seemingly no reason whatsoever, this is turning into an hour-long mission to sort through a web of lies, such as of this site https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/76347 which falsely claims that I can turn on statistics from the viewport overlays. In my version, there is NO statistics option, it has been annoyingly replaced with "Annotations" which does not render the statistics I'm looking for. What the hell is going on? Why have at least several completely different websites lied about this simple trivial statistic?
