Newbie Ret Paladin Gear Help

Question

Hey all,

I'm getting into PvP for the first time since Cataclysm and I'm having a blast, but the Dragonflight item system has me overwhelmed. I'm struggling to keep track of all the different item sources, let alone evaluate which upgrade path is best for me.

Currently, I'm wearing full Honor gear (437 in PvP) with a 385 weapon. I'm saving up for a Conquest weapon (450) since that seems like my best upgrade right now.

Does this make sense, or are there other paths I should be looking at? And what should I look at after this - just work on getting more Conquest gear?

Buy the honor weapon or wpvp weapon while grinding conquest. You’re losing out on a ton of stats and damage which will make the grind soooo much more bearable.

Yeah, I was close to 1800 conquest so I figured I'd just grind it out, but I have so much Honor that it's silly not to spend it on the weapon. Thanks!

Don't buy the conquest weapon. Do the 50 sparks of life quest this week and next and you can buy a 447 ilvl weapon. Spend conquest on other pieces. You may end up getting the 450 weapon in the vault or you can upgrade from 447 to 450 last.

Buy an honor weapon for now.

Follow-up, if you know the answers:

  1. Is it generally better to buy Trophies of Conquest and use them to craft gear vs just buying pieces of Obsidian Gladiator's armor?
  2. If I buy Trophies, how much gold on average should I expect to pay for a decent PvP set?

Buy weapon with conquest, get crafted boots+chest with first two trophies. 3rd trophy will be for vers/mastery ring made by jewelcrafters (Titan signet something) so we get 2 x vers/mastery rings (crafted+ conquest).

At 1k6 rating you will get a free piece of set, pick helm.

Hey, thanks for the info. Any recommendations on order of buying Conquest gear? And any pieces to avoid since they'll be replaced quickly? Sounds like I should avoid boots, chest, non-vers ring, and helm.

Meh, probably better to focus on buying wep and trying for tier in the vault, there is another 2 weeks till the catalyst comes out that lets you convert gear, this will both save you conq and catalyst points if you can get a tier piece early. You get a guaranteed tier from hitting 1600 rating, so just focus on that. I bought my wep and glad I did. With conq you can then focus on rings, neck, etc. Shoulders, bracers and other items can be done w/ sparks trophys easily cause they have verse/mast

Yes it makes sense to do that since you want to hope for tier pieces in the vault.

I bought ring neck all the things that I cannot get from bloody tokens or tier piece first. Once you have more conquest I worked on the off pieces first. You want a shot at tier piece without replacing something you have already
