[Fitocracy] Round 9 - Challenge Information and Signups!

EDIT: Round 9 is live and underway! As of 5PM EST On December 3rd everyone who signed up should have an invite. A couple of you did not follow the bot and I'm not able to invite you yet. If you haven't received some or all of your invites PLEASE let me know - either make another post on this thread or send NYMeatball a reddit mail.

Best of luck everyone! Remember that you can join mid-round you'll just have to play catch up :)

Welcome back for Round 9, Fitocrats! Whether you're a Fitocracy veteran or a new user - Group Challenges are back and we're hoping you'll join us for the first sprint, as well as the rest of the round! For those who were with us last round, the format is almost identical - there's a new competition this time around for Heaviest Barbell Squat.

Q. What is Fitocracy?

A. Fitocracy is a social site where you sign up and track your workouts. You 'level up' by completing workouts, quests, and challenges. These range from something fairly simple (Go for a jog of any length, perform a bench press) to the ridiculous (Squat twice your bodyweight for 20 reps, Run a 4 minute mile).

Q. Ok, got it! Now what are groups?

A. Groups/Challenges are a way to get people together with similar interests, and compete against one another in specific activities. For example, the Running Distance challenge only keeps track of how much you've run, and ranks you against other group members. You're still allowed to log whatever you want daily, but only running will count.

Q. You've got me excited - now how do I WIN?

A. The primary intent of these challenges is to encourage everyone to be more active, but many of us enjoy the competition and you should take great pride in finishing high in (or even winning!) a specific challenge. The way the challenges are ranked is strictly by points. When you complete an activity, fitocracy will hand you out a certain amount of points. You get more points for 'harder' activities. Running 5 miles at a 8 minute pace will get you more points than a 10 minute pace, and running 10 miles will get you more points than running 5.

Q. When does the first set of challenges start?

A. Unlike past rounds where we delayed challenges a week, we're now lining up the first set of challenges exactly with our sprints. The first challenge will run for the entire length of Sprint 1, and starts on Monday, December 3rd. The first challenge ends on the last day of Sprint 1: Tuesday, January 1st.

How to join a challenge

  1. If you haven't already, join Fitocracy. Back in the day people needed invites to join Fitocracy. This does not seem to be the case anymore, if however you run into problems and can not join / need an invite message one of the mods and we will help you.

  2. Follow the user 90DaysGoalBot. This means click on the link and hit the button on the top right that says "FOLLOW". (If it says "UNFOLLOW" you are already following that user). We have to do this as there is no other way for us to add you to the challenges. Also that is a user that every mod has access to so we can add you pretty fast.

  3. Tell us which challenges you want to join. Do this via the comments here. We will need your Fitocracy Username to do this. Ideally it will look something like: "Fitocracy:[User] Challenge: a,b,d". An mod will answer your request here once you have been invited.

  4. Check your messages on Fitocracy and click the invitation link. Then in the group, click the top right button that says "JOIN GROUP".

  5. After joining, you have to join the challenge as well. Check the left side in the group for the "JOIN CHALLENGE" button. I can not stress this enough. If you want to take part you have to do this before December 3rd.

If there are any questions left, we are willing to help you with every step. Problems signing up to fitocracy? Joining the group? Didn't get your invite? Let us know - don't hesitate to ask!

Once we get started, we'll do results weekly through the sprint and a final result at the end of the sprint. Best of luck everyone, start racking up those points!
