I got a Seiko 5 military for £70 in 2021 and it’s a lovely nice small automatic watch! Good entry.

I also got a Vostok Scuba dude just before the whole Russian/Ukraine war.

The seiko 5 has a nice open back, very cheap to wet your toes in to the whole automatic watch field!

A Hamilton khaki would fit in that price range for sure maybe like £400-500 not sure I'm Canadian lol. Definitely more of a simple look Leather/canvas strap. Not sure if you're looking more for a sporty watch then the Seiko SSK GMT has an outstanding batman style to it

I'd go Seiko 5 GMT.

One thing to consider though is how advantageous it is to have a cheap automatic that may need servicing at some point years from now that cost more than the watch. Just a thought.

You’ll get great recommendations in the comments for things like the Hamilton Khaki, Tissot PRX, and Seiko 5. Since you said that you’re having trouble finding inspiration, I’m going to give you a couple of micro brands that might change that for you, depending on your taste.

Geckota (I just bought the Pioneer Aurora). If you find something you like, add it to your cart and then don’t check out. Give it a day or two and I’ll email you a 10% coupon.

Yema. The Rallygraf is popular, but it’s a mecaquartz and not an automatic. Still respectable.

Undone.
