Anyone else in their 20s losing interest in having a career?
I'm 24 and less than a year out from graduating with a master's in economics from an "elite" university after a successful run at a state school. I've been groomed by top professors for the PhD/academia track since my junior year of undergrad, but the closer I get to my diploma, the more I lose interest in building the career I've been workings towards. Really, I've lost interest in any career. Between the pandemic and a year of personal health issues, I've come to the conclusion as much as I can love my career, it can never really love me back. The things that really make me happy and that are there to stay are the people in my life and the hobbies I'm passionate about (hiking, photography, travel, cooking, etc.). I know I can make enough money in a standard job to fund those endeavours and live a quiet, comfortable life, but I still can't help but feel like I'd be wasting all my "potential" if I don't try to run the World Bank or some shit.
Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing/has experienced this kind of disenchantment? Is this the infamous "quarter life crisis" or am I unlocking the type of person I really am? Possibly both? Do I just need to nap for a year? Being 20-something is so weird.
