current conditions of trail durango to silverton?

Can someone share what the current trail conditions are from Durango heading north to Silverton area. How much snow is covering the trail?

How far are you looking to go? I hiked about 12 miles up from the terminus, well past Gudy's rest a couple weeks ago and didn't encounter any snow. But I was up at Molas Pass a couple days later on 5/26 and it was completely covered, basically impassable. So somewhere between 12 and 70 miles you'll reach an impasse.

This map might help, current Snow-Water Equivalent is overlayed by default: https://coloradotrail.org/trail/guidebooks-and-maps/

Came across this thread late, curious to ask what you think conditions between in this area could be like by July 1? Monitoring conditions but wondering if we should plan for later in the season, thanks!

I love that map. Thanks for sharing. I’ve just been using the snotel links to specific points, which were painting a very different picture than that map did. I have to start this Monday and the section out of breck to Tennessee pass looks like a no go rn.

Are you starting in Durango this Monday? That’s not a good idea. You aren’t going to make it far. Start in Denver. You’ll still have to skip passes if you wanna do the whole thing, but you’ll see way more of the trail starting in Denver this time of year.

Oh no, Denver for sure. I’ve done the first 150miles before so I’ve got a good idea of what Georgia, searle, and Kokomo look like. They’re not too sketchy so I’ll probably go take a peak at em. The breck —> Copper crest is a little precarious if I remember correctly. That day sucks so if I need to bud from breck I suppose I could. Would be sad tho.

I have to be in Durango for other reasons... so I was just going to take the opp. to do some hiking too. I wanted to hike N to Silverton area... Originally I was going to do the CDT for Weminuche pass to Silverton but that sounds like lots of snow too.
