Looking to build my own printer for home/hobby use. Where do I start?

Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to build a printer for home and hobby use, but I'm not sure where to start. I don't have access to another 3D printer, but I do have access to a machine shop.

I'm looking for a smaller bed size, don't care about the looks, would like to have good accuracy.
