How far are we from two men being able to genetically father a child?

Biology
  • Question relates to humans
  • Only the genetic material of the fathers
  • Both their genetic material used (i.e. no clones)
  • No intermediary children
  • Surrogate mothers allowed, for obvious reasons.
  • Bonus points for involving regular meiosis.
  • Bonus points for the process allowing for both sons and daughters (ratio is explicitly outside the scope of the question)

Roughly how far removed from this concept being viable is our current technology? I realize that no one can predict the future, but I would enjoy hearing the order of magnitude.

Moreover, what specific hurdles would be involved? What are the primary difficulties, and why are they so difficult to overcome? Are there any high-profile teams working specifically on this matter?
