[QUESTION] - Can I change how my CVT behaves?

2012 Impreza hatch with CVT. I know you all hate CVTs but I got it for the slightly improved mileage. I'm not a huge fan, but there's one thing it does that, pun intended, really grinds my gears. I live in a mountainous region and when I go downhill, it "shifts down" shooting my RPMs up, slowing me down and preventing me from coasting, and I'd like to coast without going into neutral.

Is there a way I can modify the behavior of the CVT to stop this? Or would it be too potentially disastrous to deal with?
