Can someone explain to me how capitalism causes patriarchy?

Whenever I see people arguing that socialsm doesn't "need" feminism, they usually spout the axiom that "capitalism generates patriarchy; socialism eliminates patriarchy; therefore, feminsm and feminist positions are unnecessary. What's usually left out of the discussion is exactly why the two premises are so.

I find it hard to believe that capitalism "alone" contributes to patriarchy, mostly because patriarchal societies predate capitalist AND class-based societies. Yes, pre-class-based societies appear less patriarchal, but pre-class-based societies will differ from socialist/communist societies for reasons of technology and culture.

Im not saying that class relations arent the main contributing factor to misogyny, but to take such a class-reductionst attitude toward explaining gender relations, to me seems anachronstic and effectively stifles debate.
