Hey r/Iceland, I have a few questions about Iceland that I hope you can help me with?
Beginning from January, I'll be attending university in Reykjavik on an exchange from Scotland. I was wondering about a few things that, hopefully, you can help me with?
-
Transit: how easy/costly is it to get around Iceland, especially within Reykjavik? Is public transport safe and easy to use for a foreigner? On that note, is the city safe to walk about by myself?
-
Cost of living: Are everyday items shockingly expensive? I've seen online that some things, such as food, can be quite pricey.
-
Climate: I've checked the monthly average temperatures but could you give me a guage of exactly how cold it gets? Will I be fine wrapped up in warm jacket, gloves, scarf, and hat? Or will I need some serious thermals to keep warm?
-
Language: Are all public utilities marked in Icelandic? How realistic would it be for me to get around the country without only a beginner's knowledge of the language?
Any responses from native Icelanders or someone that has been on a similar exchange would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all very much. Takk fyrir!
