Does walking really burn the same amount of calories per mile?

On my 'off days' running - I'm guessing that a weight bearing exercise would help my running progession more than a non-weight bearing one. So I was thinking of taking like a 4-5 mile walk (quick pace for an hour).

  1. Does that 'count' as recovery time?
  2. Does the 120 calorie per mile estimate I get for my height/weight hold true for walking, too?
