Are there any negative physical effects to very strong smells like there are for very loud sounds and bright lights?

Medicine

When humans are exposed to very loud sounds, it damages our hearing. Similarly, when we look directly at the sun, it can damage our eyesight. Does smell (and taste) behave in the same way?
