Going to do my internship in Chengdu,China for 6 months

Hey r/travel,

I'm going to Chengdu for 6 months to do my internsip at an IT company and I was wondering if there is some kind of way to work around the 'firewal of China'(do proxies work?), because a lot of websites are blocked (including gmail:( ). And are there places within Chengdu that I definitely should visit ?

So far all I know about Chengdu is that there are panda's and pretty ladies.
