Limit on number of rides/sprites per park?

Is there a limit to the number of rides you can have in a park? I'm working on a megapark but I've read that things like peeps have a hard limit on how many can be in the game

once this limit is reached, what exactly happens? does the game just stop working, disallow new objects or what? Is there even a limit?
