Best way to experience hill tribes in thailand?

Im going to thailand tomorrow and plan on spending around two weeks in the Chiang Mai region. I really want to have an authentic trek to the hill tribes (willing to spend all two weeks with the tribes). Dont wanna get ripped off (i saw some treks that were $120 for 3 days). Any suggestions?
