What current American actor could play James Bond?

Maybe 007 could last another 50 years on the screen (or translate to whatever story telling medium we invent in the future). Whatever nightmare lies in store for us, I think it's only fair to give the Yanks a shot on her majesties secret service. So who has ability to fill the shoes?

Also for any smart arses out there, I'm aware that Bond's first screen outing was by american actor Barry nelson back in 1954................ but that's to be over looked.
