Phase boots on SK (on pubs)

So I've always been throwing in phase boots with skelly as boots of choice, since I've found that it's almost always helped me both to chase down my fleeing ganks as well as escaping massive ganks before you get bkb and can just wade through those stuns.

Most guides I read throw treads at him though, am I being a stupid noob for giving him phase? Admittedly I haven't played him on a pub for weeks, but whenever I did, I got a lot of mileage out of that quick run. It's also great for roaming.

So, thoughts on that? I know that treads gives more damage and extra HP (if on STR), but since ganking with skelly before he gets his vampiric aura and crit is kind of no-go as far as I know? And with VA, getting extra HP (especially after armlet) is kind of redundant?
