Addressing the catching situation - Jarrod Saltalamacchia?
First and foremost I am a Mets fan but if I had to pick a second favorite team, it had to be the Red Sox (makes rooting against the Yankees that much more fun!). There is a strong opinion among many Sox fans that Salty (a switch hitter who is better from the right) is not the man for the long term job as Lavarnway seems waiting in the wings for a major role with the club. In addition, with their signing of David Ross, Salty or Lavarnway are the men for a job that only has one opening. The Sox are also in desperate need for bullpen help. I'm not going to speculate on who we could offer but our catching situation is more dire then theirs. Does anyone think the Mets would do well to make an offer? His OBP is awful but he does have substantial power especially for a catcher and calls a decent game. Shoppach struggled the more he played and Salty has played a season as a full time player.
