How to get responses, phone numbers, and dates on OKCupid as a guy

I figured I'd share some of what I've been doing on the site lately, since I've been getting about a 50%-75% response rate to messages for the past month (yes, it's really that high).

Firstly, your profile probably sucks. Broligarchy was of the opinion that mine sucked (still was better than hers, the jerk), so I made some changes to it. Whatever it was, it seemed to work (also I moved from LA to Philly... where apparently there is a deficit of attractive men). I read most profiles and think "booooring". Be funny. Be cute. Be yourself. Don't be bland.

Secondly, choose who you message carefully. There is no point sending out dozens of copy/paste messages to every girl you can find. Find the girls that are most attractive to you personality-wise, physically, etc. Send them messages. I only send 1 or 2 a day at this point (only to very attractive girls that I find interesting).

Thirdly, content of the first message - I used to send out spammy messages. NEVER WORKED. Now I just send messages that fit my personality - light-hearted, personal, joking, maybe poking fun. Some examples: redacted Lastly, content of the second and later messages - suggest an activity as soon as possible as part of a paragraph long response or so. This is a sales technique I sort of forgot about - always be closing. Get the conversation to the date immediately and trade phone numbers. Set a date and time and place within a couple days.

Now, I don't know how this goes if you aren't fairly attractive (advice: hit the gym, go on a diet, emulate Don Draper, post pictures of you in clothing and smiling). But I've found this whole display-my-personality thing to be really liberating and fun. And that's what you want this to be - a fun experience. OkCupid went from being a chore to being entertaining.
