Wilton Manors for a straight couple?
So, within the next two to three weeks my boyfriend and I will be happily moving down to the Fort Lauderdale area following my career. We've been looking for places since May, and everything we like (Victoria park and the such) has been either too expensive or too dumpy.
We've managed to find a beautiful loft this weekend which I'm fairly certain we will sign a lease for, so I have a few questions that I'm hoping you guys can help me out with.
It's important to note that my boyfriend and I are VERY relaxed and open-minded, having friends in all ranges of the spectrum. With that said, I have some questions.
Wilton Manors, particularly the area in which our apartment would be located, is very much a gay neighborhood. Like I said, that's not an issue at all. I did notice though that there were NO straight couples (or straight people, in general) anywhere I looked. After doing some research, we found that Wilton Manors is one of the most dense gay communities in the country as a percentage of population. Are there any straight Redditors that currently live (or know someone who lives) in the area? If so, what are your thoughts? Are we going to have a hard time being accepted in the community? Also, seeing as there are quite a few bars and restaurants in the main strip, how loud does it tend to get during the week days? Is this a good area for someone who will be working in Downtown Ft. L?
We want to make sure that we're making the right decision, and any comments would be seriously appreciated.
UPDATE: I just wanted to thank you all for your advice and warm welcome to the area. After reading all the comments and independently adding some more PROs to our list, we didn't need to give it much more thought. We've decided to sign the lease and start our lives in this lovely neighborhood. I can't wait! :)
