What are your thoughts on JT as coach/manager in the future?
With the Ash/Lamps situation as it is, I wonder if the club is facing a similar problem when JT's contract runs out in 2014.
Because of his contributions to the club, it's even more important for Chelsea to retain JT long term than it is to keep Ash/Lamps around, in my opinion. In order to do so, I wonder if the team could offer him the chance to be a player/coach with a path toward manager.
Perhaps as soon as next season, the club could appoint him as a skills coach while still giving him playing time. This would be a natural extension of his role as captain and having him instruct the defense more extensively than he already is would certainly help shore things up and develop the players we have and will have on the back line. This would also help whoever the manager is justify giving JT less playing time - which is what has to happen, inevitably.
JT could continue to play when needed, eventually becoming a Ferreria-type player, and increase his coaching role as his playing time dwindles. Eventually this could lead to him becoming first team coach, and maybe manager, which is something I think all Chelsea fans would welcome.
Is this scenario a that is either plausible or desirable for CFC?
Do you have any other ideas on what JT's role with the club could be as he winds down his career?
