The Movies vs. Extended Universe

So I've been thinking a lot lately about my feelings for the Star Wars movies versus the various Expanded Universe media, and just wanted to share my thoughts and see what you guys think.

Now, I love the original trilogy as much as anyone, and they'll remain some of my most favorite movies ever. And I like the new trilogy as well, despite it's flaws. But nowadays I find myself gravitating much more towards EU stuff, more specifically stuff in the Old Republic time period, when it comes to my SW consumption.

I guess I'm kind of tired of the characters and the Skywalker story arc - the Old Republic just seems a lot more fresh and open to possibilities. I'm finding it kind of hard to get excited about news of the new movies, since it's going to feature Luke and the same old crew again. It'd be nice to have all totally new characters.

So, is there anybody else that shares my view? Or alternately, anybody that is only a fan of the movies and doesn't bother with EU at all? Feel free to share your thoughts.

EDIT: Sorry, meant to say "Expanded" rather than "Extended". No way to edit titles?
