One year I bought my Mom a llama for Christmas. It was an over-the-top idea that didn't really pan out. Reddit, what huge holiday surprises have you gone through with that are memorable for the wrong reasons?
Growing up my folks had a small farm - chickens, a few sheep. My sisters and I thought a llama would be a neat addition to their little menagerie, so we plunked down $500 bucks on a young male named Moonbeam (the males it turns out are cheaper). We kept him at the neighbors farm for a sneaky week and I crept off while everyone was opening presents to put a huge red bow on his neck and walk him into the yard. There was much rejoicing, but in a few short months we had to return him because, lonely for his own kind he was using his long neck to flip their aging sheep over, roll them down the long hill and try to have his way with them. To this day in our family the llama is the standard unit of measurement for how far is too-far to take a Christmas present.
