I can't play Mountain of Faith (TH 10) in full screen. Are there any solutions to my issue?

As the title says, I can't play Touhou 10 - Mountain of Faith in full screen. As soon as the initial loading screen shows up, it freezes and all I have is a black screen and even that loading animation stops. I have no issue playing in window mode, but with a resolution of 1680x1050, the window is very small and I have a very hard time figuring out the position of the smaller bullets.

This is the only Touhou game that this happens. I've already tried running in compatibility mode but didn't have any luck.

My system is a Windows 7 64bit. I've already tried to Google the issue but found no answers.
Did any of you had this issue? What did you do to fix it?
