How much were the Crusades a reaction to the Mongol invasions, and vice-versa? To what extent was there interaction between these two forces?

There seems to be quite a bit of temporal and geographical overlap between the Crusades and the invasions by Genghis Khan and his successors, so I'm wondering about the extent of interaction between Crusaders and Mongols, in the Middle East and in Eastern Europe.
